The Senior Software Engineer in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Air National Guard Program Office (ANGPO) is a full time research faculty position located at the Tucson Field Office, Arizona. The senior software engineer will support the design, development, and deployment of a continuous delivery system for rapid software development supporting Air National Guard (ANG) sponsored research.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Design, develop and deploy software for military applications
  • Collaborate with fellow researchers and sponsors to refine software requirements, formulate technical approaches, participate in various technical groups, review code and mentor fellow team members
  • Define software application requirements including requirement/feature analysis and project scope analysis
  • Develop and enforce coding standards, processes and best practices
  • Regularly interact with sponsors throughout project life cycle
  • Lead small to mid-sized Agile projects and/or teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and a Master's degree in any field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and a Master's degree in any field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and a Master's degree in any field.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and a Master's degree in any field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and a Master's degree in any field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field and a Master's degree in any field and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of software design and development experience supporting complex systems
  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as C/C++, C#, Java, Javascript and/or Ada
  • Experience in Python or similar scripting language
  • Experience with modern database and datastore technologies (e.g. RDBMS, NoSQL, K-V)
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)/Configuration Management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps and Agile software development methodologies and tools such as Git, issue trackers and collaboration tools such that support instant and direct messaging such as Slack
  • Demonstrated experience with leadership of a technical team that includes management of people, budgets, schedules and technical requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with service oriented architectures and cloud-based solutions
  • Experience designing and documenting software architectures
  • Technical diagnostic expertise including problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills
  • Experience developing product requirements and/or standards documentation
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to non-technical audiences
