Position Highlights This position will be involved in the design and implementation of various laboratory and field related research in the area of vadose zone hydrology and soil physics. The position will implement various methods to measure and monitor soil moisture, matric potentials, and water and solute flux in soils and the vadose zone. The position will operate instrumentation to measure Ksat, soil water characteristics, and other soil properties. The position will conduct miscible-displacement transport experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out hypothesis-driven research.
  • Follow good laboratory practices.
  • Record and keep experimental details and data in an organized manner.
  • Work in a semi-independent manner, showing initiative and creativity to solve problems related and in agreement with a position in a research lab.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of collaborative laboratories.
  • Write manuscripts for publications and contribute to grant writing.
  • Present talks, posters, and research findings at laboratory meetings and national conferences.
  • Attend regular group meetings, manage, maintain, and order laboratory equipment and supplies, and respond to administrative requests and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of laboratory methods for measuring Ksat and soil-water characteristics.
  • Knowledge of field methods for measuring soil moisture, matric potential, and water/solute flux.
  • Knowledge of laboratory methods for conducting miscible-displacement transport experiments.
  • Knowledge of soil characterization methods.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related science field.
  • Six months or more of related work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's of Science Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in conducting measurements of soil moisture, matric potentials, and water and solute flux in soils and the vadose zone.
  • Experience in measuring Ksat, soil water characteristics, and other soil properties.
  • Experience in conducting miscible-displacement transport experiments.
