Position Highlights

Biosphere 2 at The University of Arizona is seeking a Maintenance Technician (Trades Assistant I) with entry to mid-level skills, responsible for ensuring proper operation, repair and maintenance of the Biosphere 2 facilities and equipment. This is a benefits eligible extended temporary position located at the Biosphere 2 in Oracle Arizona. The ideal candidate must be able to maintain a safe and efficient working environment for the Biosphere 2 visitors, staff and research personnel. This role requires a strong technical aptitude, excellent problem solving skills, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems. Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify potential issues, safety hazards, or areas requiring attention. Regular maintenance of Air Handler units, involving valve operation, pressure washing filters, greasing bearings, alignment of belts and pulleys, cleaning sumps, lock out/tag out procedures and communication with operations on the status of units.
  • Must be willing to become certified as a climber for maintaining rain systems, instrumentation, canopy management and structural repairs or replacement. Position will begin as ground support for certified climbers and progress into a training program working towards certification. Must be able to work at heights in a tough environment.(Heat, humidity and tight spaces)
  • Promptly respond to maintenance requests involving drywall repairs, painting, bulb/fixture replacements, minor electrical, plumbing and structural damage associated with buildings.
  • General organization and cleanup inside the Biosphere, Energy Center, Visitor Center, out buildings and grounds.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous facilities and maintenance experience.
