Position Highlights

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Arizona seeks a Research Technician II that will work independently and with others in a laboratory setting conducting experiments under the direction of Dr. Arthur Riegel. This program focuses on using behavioral analyses and chemical assays to investigate addiction. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded and enthusiastic individual who can communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, coordinate, and execute research experiments to investigate addiction with a focus on active rodent behavioral research under direction of PI.
  • Collaborate with work group on routine experiments using basic bench research techniques in the development of new strategies, techniques, and equipment along with their peers.
  • Help perform multiple behavioral analyses and chemical procedures/assays.
  • Collect, process and label samples in accordance with protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Set up research experiments and lab equipment following detailed instructions, procedures, and protocols.
  • Maintain daily laboratory records/notebook and perform data analysis.
  • Using general knowledge, participate in preparing detailed research experimental reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative results to facilitate data analysis.
  • Clean, sterilize, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment used for research.
  • Work is performed under general supervision except for new assignments. Sets priorities for performing work and managing time to complete tasks.

  • Good communication, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated and have an interest in learning and applying new techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
