Position Highlights

The Research Technician will assist with the planning and execution of broad scope of ACABI Lab driven, government funded and industry sponsored cardiovascular studies involving human and animal subjects that require the application of scientific knowledge, experience, and extensive wet-lab skills. The Research Technician will be responsible for conducting experiments in a biomedical research laboratory (BCL-2), data collection and management, statistical analysis, and preparation of presentations, annual reports, and manuscripts. The Research Technician will work collaboratively with the principle investigator, Dr. Marvin Slepian, MD. , ACABI senior researchers, and independently on the assigned research projects.

The candidate should possess advanced wet-lab skills and familiarity with basic methods and techniques used in biomedical laboratories, including flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blotting, microscopy, routine hematology tests and enzymatic assays, and maintaining cell culture. They will be also responsible for collection and processing of biological samples, including blood, plasma, and serum. The Research Technician will set up and operate laboratory equipment, prepare reagents and stock solutions, and perform daily in vitro experiments. The Research Technician will help to assure the validity of the results obtained by ensuring the operational condition of lab equipment, maintaining protocols and SOPs, purchasing materials and supplies, and managing the efficient use of the lab's resources.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct research experiments independently with minimal supervision and in collaboration with principle investigator, senior researchers, and graduate students, using routine methods of molecular biology and biochemistry, including flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blotting, fluorescent and electron microscopy, histology, and cell culture.
  • Collaborate on the development of the experimental design, identification of the appropriate methods, setup, and validation of the experimental protocols, making basic as well as innovative measurements.
  • Assist in the execution of multiple research projects in line with research plan.
  • Ensure availability of all materials, supplies, and resources, and that an adequate amount is available to facilitate all designated work.
  • Assist in the formulation of research methods in accordance with the standards of peer reviewed journals and industry affiliates.
  • Operate and maintain basic laboratory equipment (cell counter, ultracentrifuge, micro-plate reader, microscope, specialized hematology equipment), to ensure its operational condition and assure validity of the data obtained through experimentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental protocols; collects and analyses experimental data using routine scientific, graphic, and statistical software, including Excel, PRIZM, MATLAB, and ImageJ.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
