Position Highlights

The successful candidate will participate in research support for a variety of projects. Work will include all aspects of intake, collection, registration, processing and cryopreservation of incoming biological specimens. It will also include records searching, retrieval, organizing, packaging, and shipping of outgoing specimens. Accurate paperwork and data entry is a critical element of this position and all work activities are according to strict protocols.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Processing, characterization, and banking of biospecimens. Collect and compile research data. Completes basic calculations of test results. Nucleic acid preparation and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolation, cryopreservation, and banking. Clean, sterilize, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment, machinery and instruments used for research.
  • Shipping of samples to various end-users to include Principal Investigators within and outside of the university. Provide appropriate documentation with shipped samples, to include specimen manifest, de-identified data and other requests per investigator.
  • Receipt and registration of biospecimens in lab data base, along with data base analyses needed for quality control. Communication with Investigators and Clinical Research Coordinators from multiple University and non-University projects.
  • Provide research administrative support including coordinating schedules, handling supply and sample intake, maintaining processing records and specimen files. Collaborate in the development of new strategies, techniques and equipment. Participate in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative results.
  • Provide recommendations on various laboratory protocols and procedures. Perform miscellaneous lab work needed to keep the lab operational, such as restocking of supplies, cleaning of lab equipment and facilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Candidate should be able to practice sterile technique, willing to work with biological and potentially hazardous specimens, and adhere to strict documentation of their work. Persons must also be able to work in a large interactive groups of technicians.
  • Flexibility and the willingness to learn new skills is essential.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
