Position Highlights

The Ottenheijm Lab in the UArizona Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine is seeking highly motivated candidates for a full time Research Technician III. Dr. Ottenheijm's NIH-funded research focuses on focuses on identifying the underlying molecular mechanisms, with particular focus on titin, a giant elastic protein that might act as a mechanosensor protein. The successful candidate will possess a cell/molecular skill set with an emphasis on nebulin biology appropriate to accomplish the lab's goals. In addition, they will possess the drive required to research complex disease and will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform lab experiments with minimal supervision including gel electrophoresis for protein analyses, mouse dissections, and other specific muscle mechanical experiments. Ensure compliance with lab procedures, protocols, and quality control.
  • Collect and analyze data, and document the results of experiments. Record information and maintain detailed records of experimental procedures and data to assist with planning and analyzing results for presentation purposes. Provide data to PI for use in grant submissions and publications.
  • Develop, write, and implement lab protocols and standard operating procedures for research lab.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain lab equipment.
  • Track inventory and order additional supplies when necessary, in accordance with university purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Assist and organize with the set-up of the laboratory experiments and equipment and animal enrichment.
  • Train PhD students and other laboratory staff on the use of research equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
  • Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis and skill in their application.
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Life Sciences.
