Position Highlights

The University of Arizona and Cellular & Molecular Medicine induced pluripotent stem cell (UA iPSC) core is hiring a Research Technician IV. The UA iPSC core is a new lab looking for a researcher who has a demonstrated passion for and background in stem cell research who is interested in taking the science to the next level and growing and developing in their position. The iPSC lab is located within the Sarver Heart Center and the predominant responsibilities will be to coordinate with medical personal to obtain patient derived cells, generate iPSC lines, perform CRISPR-Cas9 Gene editing on hiPSCs, differentiate iPSCs, bank and ship cell lines, as well as maintain accurate laboratory records. This position requires a self-motivated and science-minded person.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform highly technical experiments with minimal supervision including performing electroporation, transfection, and infection to introduce donor DNA into iPSC lines.
  • Operate, upkeep, and troubleshoot sophisticated issues with various advanced scientific apparatuses, machinery, and tools, including FACS machine, electroporator, pH meter, Nanodrop, and Gel Imager, using specialized knowledge, skills, and independent judgment.
  • Refine, adapt, or develop highly skilled procedures or techniques to fit specific experimental requirements. This includes reprograming iPSCs, CRISPR gene editing, cell culture, differentiation, and biobanking.
  • Evaluate for process improvements to increase efficiency, optimize testing procedures, and reduce errors.
  • Execute intricate procedures that necessitate precise handling and adjustments of equipment which includes maintaining sterile cultures and treating iPSC derived cells with compounds/growth factors.
  • Collaborate with research team in the development of new strategies, techniques involving the differentiation of cells into various cell types.
  • Coordinate with other labs on collaborative projects.
  • Aid with independent development of new methods or approaches to develop iPSC models for investigators to study disease.
  • Provide expert knowledge and support for team with intricate matters that require strong decision-making.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to graduate and undergraduate students working the the team.
  • Evaluate and maintain detailed records of research results, data acquisition, and data and statistical analysis of studies conducted. Data will be used for publications, future contract proposals, and/or provided to other PI's for use in their own research.
  • Provide research support to the lab including stocking and ordering of supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences.
  • Prior UA research experience.
