Overview

VTG is looking for an Systems Engineer (Mid to Senior level) located onsite in Tucson, AZ.

The primary duties of the Systems Engineer include providing systems engineering support to Surface Missile Technical Representative (Tech Rep) Office, Tucson supporting the IWS 3, IWS-11, IWS-12, and AEGIS BMD Program Offices. Duties entail supporting all programmatic and technical efforts to integrate SM-2/3/6, RAM, ESSM, Naval Strike Missile and other advanced programs and international efforts as required. Duties also include providing technical support in the area of Surface Weapons Test Equipment and Production Test Equipment. This position requires frequent communication and collaboration with other government and industry partners. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for mitigating daily challenges while working with functional leadership, program leadership, and internal/external customers. The Systems Engineer will participate in determining objectives of assignments, plans, schedules and will arrange their own activities in accomplishing objectives. As part of this activity, the Systems Engineer will perform systems engineering duties and utilize systems thinking approach in developing solutions to a variety of problems. This individual should have the ability to have a primary program they support, while also being flexible in working additional programs, as needed. This will be general systems engineering tasking, from requirements development to overseeing engineering change concurrence.


What will you do?

  • Provide surface weapon test equipment and production test equipment engineering and technical support.
  • Prepare and distribute planning, presentation, and follow-up documentation for systems engineering and test.
  • Provide test equipment life cycle support plan evaluations and recommendations.
  • Monitor and verify progress of demonstrations and certifications; provide recommendation for hardware diagnoses, failure investigations; attend Failure Review Boards (FRBs) and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs)and conduct engineering review of changes as required.
  • Evaluate and provide proposals for cost, schedule, and technical impacts in support of test equipment upgrades of operating systems and design of system enhancements and maintenance activities.
  • Assess and provide engineering and technical evaluation for the implementation of test equipment upgrades.
  • Review and assess system engineering and test equipment documentation for Failure Review Boards, Change Control Boards, Design Reviews and both Formal and Informal Peer Reviews.
  • Supports the development and execution of tests to ensure the system's hardware and software meet documented requirements.
  • Work with designers and integration engineers to identify, analyze, and resolve operating/hardware system problems.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Generates technical reports, white papers and presentations as required.
  • Review and analyze released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities.
  • Ensures that customer and internal configuration management requirements are implemented.
  • Perform technical reviews of developmental test equipment to include development systems and test equipment documentation.
  • Witness and provide technical assessment for integration activities, qualification test, and test readiness reviews for surface weapon test equipment.


Do you have what it takes?

Required skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematician (STEM) quantitative field.
  • Five to Ten years of professional experience in Systems Engineering. Positions will vary from Mid to Senior level
  • Experience with modern missile design preferred
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the associated hardware, software, and equipment preferred
  • Professional certification in one or more specific technologies may be required, depending on job assignment.
  • Good understanding of technology and computing tools (Product Data Management or PDM tools, SAP or similar)
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
  • Required knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and/or other pertinent software applications.
  • Must obtain and maintain at a minimum a DoD SECRET Clearance or the preferred, DoD TOP SECRET

Preferred skills:

  • Any Naval Surface Weapons Test Equipment and Production Test Equipment systems experience
  • Experience with IWS 3, IWS-11, IWS-12, and AEGIS BMD
  • Prior Ballistic Missile Defense experience
