As a Maintenance Technician, you will learn to provide general facility maintenance and cleanliness and to dispense diets in compliance with appropriate regulatory agency guidelines. To monitor animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance:



  • Learns to clean feeders, water bottles, animal caging, and other items.
  • Clean and sanitize animal rooms or pens, hallways, stairways, and other non-animal areas.
  • Learns to collect and record applicable hand recorded and computer generated data.
  • Learns to monitor animal room and feed storage environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, watering system, condition of animals).
  • Overtime and weekend work as required.
  • Mandatory immunizations and screening as required.
  • Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work may require PPE (personal protective equipment)



    The minimum education, experience and qualifications for the Maintenance Technician position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to quality care of laboratory animals.
  • Experience in pet stores, animal labs, farms, ranching, kennels, breeders, veterinary clinics, or other environments where exposure to animals was a part of the daily responsibilities is a PLUS.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    High school diploma or equivalent with at least 3 months of related experience.
    Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information.
    Ability to lift 50 lbs
    Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals.
    AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is desirable.
    SPECIAL FACTORS:
    Overtime and weekend work as required.
    Mandatory immunizations and screening as required.
    Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds; frequent lifting throughout the day; prolonged standing; extended hand manipulation, including but not limited to, grasping and holding.
    May work with potentially hazardous substances, not limited to potential or known teratogens or carcinogens and/or radiolabeled test materials.
    Work may require PPE (Personal Protective equipment).
