Description

The Surgical Tech receives direction from the Clinical Director, Supervisor, Specialty Team Leader, and staff Registered Nurse. Works cooperatively with the surgeon, PAs/NPs, residents, fellows, and other allied health staff. Performs delegated activities to assist in the care of the patients in the operating room/procedure rooms. Under the supervision of a RN and in collaboration with the surgeon, the technologist functions primarily in the scrub role. Responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient. Applies and enforces principles of aseptic technique and adapts to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. Works flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays and has on-call responsibilities in a six-week work schedule. Mayo Clinic's 18 Operating Rooms employ state of the art technology in design and functionality supporting all caregivers and disciplines within the Perioperative Arena. Surgery at Mayo Clinic's Phoenix Campus encompasses: Cardiothoracic, including Transplants and VAD's, Peripheral Vascular, General Surgery, ENT, Gynecology, Plastics & Reconstructive, Urology, Hepatobiliary including Solid Organ Transplants (Liver, Kidney, and Pancreas). Minimally Invasive Surgery including Robotics, and Orthopedics. Our patient population ranges from 12 months of age through geriatric. First position's core hours are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Second position's core hours are 11:00 am - 9:00 pm. Both positions will take on-call.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited and/or hospital approved surgical technology program. One year of clinical experience. Successful completion of the Mayo Perioperative Preceptor Program within ninety days of hire. Level II Surgical Technologist has demonstrated comprehensive skills for one surgical subspecialty and is proficient in at least two complex procedures in two other subspecialties. These proficiencies are verified by the appropriate subspecialty team leader. Certification in Surgical Technology from either the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required within ninety days of hire and maintained thereafter. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire and maintained thereafter. Three years of acute care hospital OR and one year ENT experience preferred. EEO/AA - M/F/D/V
